The Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ is an add-on board designed for the Raspberry Pi 5, featuring an integrated Hailo AI accelerator.

When attached to a Raspberry Pi 5, the AI HAT+ enables the rapid development of sophisticated AI vision applications that operate in real time with low latency and minimal power consumption. Advanced neural networks for tasks such as object detection, semantic and instance segmentation, pose estimation, and facial landmarking run exclusively on the Hailo co-processor, freeing up the Raspberry Pi 5's CPU for other functions.

This add-on offers an accessible, cost-effective, and energy-efficient solution for integrating high-performance AI into various applications, including process control, security, home automation, and robotics.

About AI HAT+

The AI HAT+ is available in two variants, offering 13 and 26 tera-operations per second (TOPS), built around the Hailo-8L and Hailo-8 neural network inference accelerators. The 13 TOPS variant efficiently runs neural networks for applications like object detection, semantic and instance segmentation, pose estimation, and more. The 26 TOPS variant supports larger networks, faster processing, and simultaneous execution of multiple networks.

The AI HAT+ connects via the Raspberry Pi 5’s PCIe Gen 3 interface. When the Raspberry Pi 5 runs an up-to-date Raspberry Pi OS image, it automatically detects the Hailo accelerator, making the NPU available for AI tasks. The built-in rpicam-apps camera applications in Raspberry Pi OS natively support the AI module, utilizing the NPU for compatible post-processing tasks.
